The Death Cart

This week after school Neihana went to work creating his invention, The Death Cart:

He made up some ‘blueprints’ and busied himself in the garage, using whatever he could find and taking things apart so he could use their parts. No one was allowed in the garage while he was working, except Shane, who decided to spoil the surprise and tell everyone what he was making. (There was a major fight about that one!)

On Thursday it was time for the Big Reveal. He was very excited to show us all what he had made.

He loved it, just getting in there and making something, and can’t wait until his next project. Who knows what he will come up with next!

Surf to City - Neihana Writes

“5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Go! Have a nice bike with Surf to City!”

I biked in a good pace through the beach, we eventually hit road. I sped flat out, like I was being chased by cops. My brother and I both swerved around a corner. 10km to go! We stopped at a water stand to drink and spray water on us.

We got stuck behind this Chinese kid, but he got tired and stopped. But when we turned the corner he was there and he stopped again! And when we turned another corner he was there and he needed to stop again!

I eventually made it and it was a great experience.

Back to school

Neihana has just finished his first week back at school for 2012. His first day of Year 6 was Wednesday, which started with nerves and excitement over who his new teacher might be. He was hoping to get Miss Bone, a new teacher who worked in his class as a student last year, and he really didn’t want Mr Ryan, the only male teacher in the school. Well, he’s in Mr Ryan’s class. And he couldn’t be happier.

Shane had Mr Ryan for Year 5 and had told Neihana he had nothing to worry about, that Mr Ryan was a cool teacher, but Neihana was nervous about it all the same. But by the end of his first day he was in agreement with Shane. He loves his class and thinks his teacher is fantastic. And to top it all off, his best friends Jason and Ryan are both in his class, and they sit either side of him.

A happy, tired, hungry boy has come home from school each day for the last three days. We’re looking forward to a great year ahead.
