A Catch-up

It’s been a while since we properly updated Neihana’s blog with what he’s been up to. He’s been busy since we got back from Christchurch with lots happening at school. While he was away he was voted onto the Student Council, so he’s been pretty busy helping out at different things at school, like the disco and helping with clean-ups.

Hockey season has started again for the year and Neihana is enjoying being part of his school’s team again. He especially loves the new stick Uncle Aaron bought for him. He played his first game with it last week and scored the only goal for his team, bringing the score to a tie. He was very proud.

Things have been pretty quiet around home the weather turning colder and Mum and Dad have been sick, so a new Xbox 360 has been a big hit. Neihana spent some of his birthday money on new Xbox games and has been having lots of fun playing them.

In the News {Homework}

Every week as part of his homework Neihana has to report on current news. Here is this week’s news presentations:

Sonny Bill Williams' best is yet to come!

People are saying Sonny Bill’s best is yet to come in the next chiefs game. They say its a show worth watching. He has looked more threatening than ever, so apparently, he will be a death machine! People say he is a good influence to children even though he does boxing. He is a unselfish player.
I think he is going to smash every one.

Gecko Smugglers

A German tourist came down to Dunedin peninsula and secretly hunted some geckos and tried to smuggle them all the way back to Germany with him. He is named Andreas Hahn which has to suffer either 6 months in jail or a 100,000 dollar fine, the judge is still deciding on which one he should choose as a punishment. Geckos sell for 8,000 each and he got four, you do the math!

Angry Birds Bears

Somehow a male bear escaped a gigantic jungle and ended up in a University in Colorado, America, which was coincidentally called Bear Creek. The bear weighed 91kg (200 pounds) and it was there for 21/2 hours. A women named Rhona Chestnutt was pushing coins into a parking meter when she felt shaggy fur brush across her leg and thought it was a large dog. But once she saw his face she realized it was a black bear. All of a sudden it sped off and scattered up a tree, where it got tranquilized. It fell on a soft mat that animal control carefully placed out at the correct spot.                                                              It eventually got freed back into the wild.
I think that it would be weird seeing a bear falling out of a tree hopelessly.

The Scream

At an auction in New York the second most famous painting in the world (first is mona lisa) The scream was sold  for 148.5 million dollars to an unkown caller. The bidding started off at around 80.m and in only 15 mins it shot up to 148.5.m. Suddenly, the room erupted in applause and cheering.

In the News {Homework}

Every week as part of his homework Neihana has to report on current news. Here is this week’s news presentations:

King of Tonga, Dead!

The king of Tonga, King George Tupou died 19th March in a Hong Kong hospital aged 63. For the next 100 days Tongan people are going to wear black constantly. His brother is going to take his place as king of Tonga. He suffered a long series of illness. Last year, he had a cancerous kidney removed. But still, his death was a shock to around 100,000 people!

I think it would be real annoying if I had to wear black for that long.

12 year old takes off!

On Sunday 18th March a 12 year old boy took off for a wee joyride around Tokoroa in his mum’s car at 1.30 pm. He picked up his mates aged also 12 and 15, they took turns driving around town going 160kmhr!!!! The owner called the police when she saw that it had been stolen from her but, she didn’t know it was her kid that stole it. She thought he was in his room reading and playing in his room.

In the news {Homework}

Jerome Kaino is out!

In the Blues vs Chiefs game Jerome Kaino got tackled too high and part of his shoulder bone got chipped off the joint. At first, he thought it would settle but after a while it started hurting too bad so he had to stop ignoring it and get it checked out and face the facts. He can’t play super rugby or anything for six months so he can’t play for Blues this season. He says he is gutted.

I think it’s disappointing.

Bear Grylls is fired!!!!

On 14th of March Bear Grylls was fired because of a contract dispute with the Discovery channel. He is disappointed that he got fired but he had a long run while it lasted, it lasted 6 years!!! He was in the business ever since 2006. He says his most challenging one was in New Zealand. He knew it would happen some time, just not this early. He thought in maybe in 3 or 4 years time.

I think it’s real sad that he got fired because he’s a legend.

Zombies, Run!

There is a new app for Ipod touch, Iphone and android. It is called Zombies, Run! It is a new, cool way to get fit. What you do is you put your head phones on and you start running and you are able to hear them. Your boss tells you how far you have to run and how fast you have to run it. If you slow down, THE ZOMBIES WILL GET YOU!!!!!!!!!

I think it will be real fun!

Jesus Heals Cancer

In Napier, Pastor Lyle Penisula from Equippers Church put up a billboard that says ‘JESUS HEALS CANCER’. People think it’s an insulting thing to say because loved ones have died, but also people with cancer have come to his church and have been cured from the sickness. So far at-least six people have been cured there.
I think that statement is true.

Sonny Bill’s rejoining NRL

Next year Sonny Bill Williams is moving to Australia, Sydney and joining a NRL team named the Roosters in January. But for 2012 he will be in the New Zealand Chiefs. Matty Johns says that he’ll definitely 100 percent be playing as a Rooster next year.
I think it’s dumb that he’s going to play for Australia cause he’s so good.

Psycho Maniac

On Tuesday 7th Feb SBW and Clarence Tilman III were standing toe to toe for some snapshots for the fight. But Tilman started talking trash to SBW, so he began to disagree. So Tilman grabbed him and punched him hard on the face and left him bruised. SBW’s brother John tackled him over a stall beside the ring, and left the room swearing threats. SBW is keen for a challenge.

I think Tilman is a psycho who needs counciling.

Back to school

Neihana has just finished his first week back at school for 2012. His first day of Year 6 was Wednesday, which started with nerves and excitement over who his new teacher might be. He was hoping to get Miss Bone, a new teacher who worked in his class as a student last year, and he really didn’t want Mr Ryan, the only male teacher in the school. Well, he’s in Mr Ryan’s class. And he couldn’t be happier.

Shane had Mr Ryan for Year 5 and had told Neihana he had nothing to worry about, that Mr Ryan was a cool teacher, but Neihana was nervous about it all the same. But by the end of his first day he was in agreement with Shane. He loves his class and thinks his teacher is fantastic. And to top it all off, his best friends Jason and Ryan are both in his class, and they sit either side of him.

A happy, tired, hungry boy has come home from school each day for the last three days. We’re looking forward to a great year ahead.
